Change Up Your Party Food with a Burrito Bar!

We all have been to a party of some sort with a candy bar, taco bar, olive bar, etc., but have you ever been to a party that had a burrito bar? The Sweet Kickin Salsa party idea gears have been turning, and we think a burrito bar would be a fun way to shake things up at your next get together. So how does one create a burrito bar? We are glad you asked, keep reading to find out!

Creating Your Burrito Bar

The first thing you will want to do is figure out who you want to invite to your party and determine how much food you will need. We suggest making a Facebook event and sending invites that way; you can also use this the invite to find out if anyone has food allergies or dietary restrictions. After you find out how many people are coming, you will need to hit the grocery store.

Grocery Shopping Time

Once you know how many people are coming, you can head to the grocery store and buy all of your burrito building supplies.

Meat

You definitely want to have meat. Someone will be disappointed if there is no meat. Meat is a crucial ingredient in a lot of burritos, so that is why we are listing it first. Don’t forget that you can add fajita or taco seasoning to any of these options for extra flavor! Be sure to you have a meat thermometer handy to make sure everything cooked to perfection.

  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Steak
  • Shrimp
  • Pork

Tortillas

We said that meat was a crucial ingredient in a lot of burritos, and we meant it, but tortillas are necessary. Now, there are three things to note when buying tortillas:

  1. Size: You need to buy the big ones-10 inches is ideal.
  2. Quality: If you go cheap on tortillas you will have a lot of broken burritos-and broken hearts.
  3. Stick with flour: This is not the time to buy the spinach and herb, low carb tortillas. Buy one pack of gluten-free if you have a friend with an allergy and then stick with the traditional flour tortillas-just trust us on this one.

Veggies

Some believe that veggies do not belong in a burrito, we disagree! Here are some classic veggies you should pick up for your burrito bar:

  • Onions
  • Bell Peppers
  • Jalapenos
  • Potatoes
  • Some really hot peppers (after your friends have a few drinks these will become popular, we promise)

Condiments

Obviously, you will need a few jars Mild, Medium, and Spicy Habanero Sweet Kickin Salsa. We suggest picking up the SKS variety pack or heading to a grocery store near you to stock up. Here are some other condiments you can pick up:

  • Queso
  • Guacamole
  • Sour Cream
  • Shredded Cheese

Drinks

For drinks, we say stick with margaritas (click here for some great recipes) and a few kinds of beer. If you have little ones or folks, who are not into alcohol pick up some Mexican soda and don’t forget to have a bottle opener handy!

Preparation

You will need to have a picnic table that is long enough to hold all of the burrito fixings, if you don’t have one on hand, ask a guest if they can bring one ahead of time. Start preparing the food about an hour and a half before guests arrive. Keep things that need to stay warm in crockpots or in your oven on a low setting.

Put everything in bowls and arrange them on the table-add some fun themed decorations and Mexican candy if you like. Another extremely important thing every burrito bar needs is plenty of napkins; things could get a bit messy.

There you have it. If you are looking for a unique food idea for your next party, consider creating a burrito bar! Don’t be surprised if it becomes the new end of summer tradition.
